Hello, I currently maintain a WP site (www.angloarabian-healthcare.com) and wish to replace it with a new site. I am with BlueHost.
Can anyone please tell me the best way to do this? I want to keep the domain name and existing hosting platform, just upgrade the template and re-write the site? Do I have to take the existing site down, install the new template, put up a maintenance page and wait until it's finished before publishing or do I create the new website in a dedicated sub-directory? I keep getting conflicting advice and would be very grateful if someone could put me on the right path! Many thanks in advance, J.

It is better to do the work on a WordPress installation on your computer and when it is ready, you can replace the current site with the newly created one.

Thank you very much Krishna. How do I do the work on a WP installation on my computer? I am very much thinking that I should just take the whole thing down (have backed up the files), re-install as new and put up a holding page plug-in... seems much easier than sub-directories? Do you agree?

Install local servers like WAMP on your computer. If you do not know about it, go for Instant WordPress that is the easiest to install and work. You need not even install WordPress. It comes packed with WP and all else you need.

I have nothing to say, as it depends on your decision. I suggested to allow it run for the sake of your visitors and for other reasons.

Thank you so much Krishna. I work on a Mac and Instant WordPress is for Windows?

It works with most browsers and OS. If it goes wrong, just delete and reinstall. No headaches, nothing to learn, and the simplest to work with.
