• I have an old theme on my blog, from 2007. I’m tired of it and think my site would look much better if it were updated. I’m worried about how to do that without losing things. When I search in the codex, it seems like most of the instructions either about uploading a theme to a new blog, or updating the existing theme on your blog.

Can someone provide me with some pointers (e.g. what should be disabled- if anything- before making the switch). Similarly, if someone knows where there’s a good “how to” on this, please add a link! Just want to make sure I don’t crash my site.

    Thanks!

  • so your wordpress is up to date?

If so, then switching themes is as simple as installing and activating a new theme. Can be done right from the themes menu in the admin dashboard

Your posts, pages, etc will be unaffected

You may need to put your widgets back in place

Its always a good idea to back your site files and dataabse up before doing any major changes

Great. I was hoping it would be that easy, but in a way I figured that was too good to be true. Thanks for the response.

Additionally, check how the titles, h1 and other main tags are set after new theme. The titles will affect more in SEO.
