replacements for the ancient Spam Karma 2 and wp-cache

    I’m running 2.7. Am waiting a bit to upgrade to 2.8.1 given the few horror stories I’ve heard, but these do mostly seem due to rogue plugins and themes. My theme is fine as are most my plugins.

    I do use the ancient Spam Karma 2 and wp-cache. They’ve given me no problems so far but maybe it’s time to replace them with something modern anyway.

    Suggestions welcome. What’s are good spam and cache plugins for 2.8.1?

    I use the following plugins in addition to Akismet:

    AVH First Defense Against Spam gives you the ability to block spammers before content is served and lets you easily report spam to the Stop Forum Spam database and delete the comment at the same time. (You need to go to the Stop Forum Spam site http://www.stopforumspam.com/ and get an API number to add to the Settings page in order to report spam.)

    WordPress Hashcash Client-side javascript blocks all spam bots. XHTML 1.1 compliant.

    WP Super Cache Very fast caching plugin for WordPress. (Be sure to read the installation instructions for how to delete WP Cache before installing WE Super Cache) and let the settings page update your .htaccess page, etc.
