[resolved] Replacement for user_level? (8 posts)

From what i've been reading, wordpress 2.0 will no longer support the user_level variable used to ascertain the current user level. I have searched around the forums and codex and have been unable to find what the suggested replacement should be. Can someone point me in the right direction as to what function/variable/process I should be using instead?

The only thing I could find was at http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_currentuserinfo , but this looks similar to what i'm using now.

Unfortunately I don't have an easy way to play around with wp2 on my own to try and figure it out, but any help would be appreciated :) Thanks!

The replacement will a be a "user roles" system. It will be documented when v2.0 is ready to be released.

Ah, okay. I thought there was maybe some documentation out there that could give me a head start on getting my plugin(s) wp2 compatible before it's officially released.

Hmmm surely its would be better to still have the 0-9 user level in place with the option to tie down custom user roles to a certain number?

Or even scrap the user levels and allow for the creation of custom user roles?

If this wont be implemented i can see me writing a plugin for it as user levels a main part of my EuroCSS.NET site

  5. Check the database, specificly the wp_usermeta table. ;)

Thanks Viper :) That's what I was looking for. I found a good example of what I was looking for in the forums in this thread:

Check http://wordpress.org/support/topic/50693 for a better explaination...
