• I tried to fix something that wasn’t broke and broke it!

I wanted to change the web address of my blog so changed the name of the folder in dreamweaver, updated all links and uploaded.

    Didn’t save the folder first…

I know, I know Bad move!

Was getting fatal error messages etc but have managed to get back to the point of having the main page up.

    Here are my continuing problems…

Can’t access archives when I use my custom option in permalinks. I have cleaned out the htaccess file. I chmod it to 666 and 777 but in admin continues to say it’s not writable. So have done it manually but still no go.
It works in default mode and before people suggest mod_rewrite and allow override. Everything worked perfectly before I changed the folder containing all my wordpress files.

When I change permalinks to default I can access post archives but still can’t access comments pages or my about page.

Also when in admin under manage files when I click edit post or edit page all the information exists but it won’t allow me to view the file from there. I get webpage not found.

I’m thinking this has to be something pretty simple since all I did was change the file name but I’ve been at it for a day now and fear my tiredness has me unable to see the elephant in the room.

    Any help much appreciated.

  • 1. Don’t use DW, use a normal FTP.
    2. I don’t even understand how could you change those values in the admin > Options > Gneral via DW…
    3. Don’t ever change those URIs to “fantasy” values!
    4. If you promise all of the above – see the tutorial for fixing it:

    THANK GOD!!!!

Thank you Moshu. I promise to follow your directions in the future.

And for anybody else who has this problem, after following the tutorial, it didn’t completely resolve itself until I cleaned out my htaccess file.
