Renamed site gets 404 error (10 posts)

I had a old site in my multisite setup that had not been used for 2 years. I had a person ask if they could rename their site url and use the site url that had gone dormant. I said sure. So I deleted the old named site from the network and then renamed the other site to the "new" name. Immediately, I got a 404 error for the newly named site. The database still has their content and the new site name is listed in the network admin area, but I cannot get the site to load. I've been able to revert it to the original name, but that didn't work either.

    Please help.
    Thanks

  2. How did you rename?

I renamed from the network admin area. I have done that before with no problems. I have never renamed a site to a site that was deleted before. I also tried renaming by editing the database when my site didn't load.

  4. I renamed from the network admin area.

    Right, details please :)

There's more than one way to do this.

I searched for the site in the network admin dashboard. I then changed the path name to the site I deleted previously. Left the update siteurl and home checkbox. Clicked save changes. GOt a notice that the site was updated successfully. Loaded the site and it said "Page not found" http://blogs.friendscentral.org/latinlit. I checked that the change was reflected in the database and it was.

  6. Interestingly, when I look at your site (buddyPress), it has the url of http://blogs.friendscentral.org/latinlit1 show up for the blog, so I have a feeling something didn't check changed.

OK. So what could my next steps be to fix this problem?

  8. Left the update siteurl and home checkbox.

Does this mean 'I left the box unchecked' or 'I left the box checked'?

It means I left the box checked.

  10. My next step would be to search the database for latinlit1 and see if there are places it didn't change.
