[resolved] Renamed installation folder - site no longer works (5 posts)

    Hello,

I wanted to rename the installation folder for a wordpress site I manage-

    http://localcolordyes.com/wordpress/

    becomes

    http://localcolordyes.com/blog/

I checked the support forums and found this:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Answers-Installation#Rename_Folder

And followed the instructions. I went into the administration panel and went to General Settings and renamed both the WordPress address and Blog address settings to http://localcolordyes.com/blog/ and then saved the change.

I then renamed the folder in the directory from "wordpress" to "blog" via FTP.

Now, neither http://localcolordyes.com/blog/ nor http://localcolordyes.com/wordpress/ will load and I can no longer access the admin panel for the site.

    Please help!

  2. Deactivate all plugins by renaming plugins to old_plugins and see if the site at /blog/ comes up.

    hello songdog

thanks for the suggestion. i just checked in on the site and it seems to be working now. maybe the server needed some time to resolve the new folder name?

in any case, now i'm seeing an issue regarding relative links, i.e., all the image links are not working as they are still referencing the former "wordpress" folder.

back to the forums to see if this new problem can be solved!

  4. A folder name change isn't retroactive in any way; Search RegEx is a good plugin to be able to search and replace with Grep through all posts and pages.

Huzzah! Search Regex worked like a charm.

    Thanks much!
