I am using an installation of wordpress software (installed on a server space I own) to run a blog for my company, I want to remove the "Powered by WordPress" footer from the blog. I want to know if
    i) I will be violating any licensing requirements if I do so
ii)If yes can I purchase the license for the software and thus remove the footer

The footer for your site is handled by your theme so check the license details of that.

Most sites don't have the 'powered by WP' in there. If you don't want it, you can just remove it.
