   My question is not how but if it is completely legal and OK to remove the notes in the footer saying 1.) that the blog is from WordPress, and 2. the theme name/and or author.

   I use the theme as a basic framework, but have customized and changed things to make the blog look different than the original theme.

   I would only like my copyright to my blog in the footer.

   Again, is it totally legal to remove the WordPress and theme name/author credits in the footer?

   as long as the theme is GPL you can remove/modify to your heart's content as wordpress is GPL
