• I’ve tried all of the solutions and WP codex step-by-steps to remove the “/wordpress” directory name from my home URL, but to no avail. I am not sure what to try now, but I have attempted the recommended steps (change site address in WP settings, copy index.php and .htaccess files, edit index.php file) and nothing has worked. I’ve spent a few days trying to remove that wordpress directory name from my URL and cannot seem to get anything to work (always just results in a page not found error – and the URL still contains the “/wordpress”). Any tips would be very welcome.

  • It sounds as though you installed WordPress in the folder /wordpress rather than the root of the domain.

You will probably have to re-intall wordpress and make sure you install it under your root without another folder. Some auto installers such as Plesk will automatically put in the wordpress folder unless you state otherwise.
