Removing WordPress Footers

    Is it permissible to remove the WordPress footer at the bottom of the theme or must it be left in? I have read some posts which explain how to open the footer code and edit it. I have one person saying you can’t remove it and another person saying I can. I really don’t care if I need to have it in. Just curious who’s right or if this is just not clear under the WP agreement (or GPL??). Thanks

    it depends on the theme. read the license.

    Thanks. I kept checking WP and GPL. Yes, I paid for a license and it lets me. Didn’t install it so I just wanted to double check that I wasn’t doing anything wrong–web guy took them out.
