Removing “pages” title_li=

Hi,

I want to remove “pages” originating from title_li=
I had to include <span> before the page links but also need to remove
the “page”.
I wrote the code this way but the “page” is also showing.

<?php wp_list_pages(‘link_before=<span>’,’title_li=’); ?>

is this format correct..please help…
