Don’t know if this is solved yet, but there are 2 steps in the solution
1. For existing pages
Go to pages and select the pages where you do not want comments. Then select “Edit” under Bulk Actions and press “Apply”.
In the following screen, select “Do Not Allow” under Comments. Then press Update.
2. For new pages
If you do not want comments for any new pages, then choose Settings and then Discussion. On that page de-select “Allow people to post comments on new articles”. This will prevent comments on new pages. If for a specific new page, you do want to allow comments, proceed as under 1.
It took me a while to find that button, but I did. It’s very easy to remove comments fields in “quick edit” mode, also. Thanks.

Want to keep pages stark. Have tried everything without success and fear this is possible only if I buy the upgrade. Want to keep a “Reply” field only on the Contact page.
