[resolved] Removing Footer Links - Site Going Down (15 posts)

Hello, I'm having a new theme installed on my WordPress blog and I'm unable to remove the irrelevant links from my footer as the site goes down with a message when I do so. Here is my functions.php code ( i don't know what should I post here, but I'm pasting the part which I think is relevant and is causing the trouble):

    if (!empty($_REQUEST["theme_license"])) { wp_initialize_the_theme_message(); exit(); } function wp_initialize_the_theme_message() { if (empty($_REQUEST["theme_license"])) { $theme_license_false = get_bloginfo("url") . "/index.php?theme_license=true"; echo "<meta http-equiv=\"refresh\" content=\"0;url=$theme_license_false\">"; exit(); } else { echo ("<p style=\"padding:20px; margin: 20px; text-align:center; border: 2px dotted #0000ff; font-family:arial; font-weight:bold; background: #fff; color: #0000ff;\">All the links in the footer should remain intact, until you buy links free theme version.</p>"); } }

It isn't encrypted and I've spend so much time Googling for a solution. I hope I can get some help here. Thanks in advance. :)

I found some more code that may cause the troubles. So, as I'm a guy with no programming experience, I thought it would be good if I post the entire functions.php here:

If you want to remove footer links for a them that is not purchased what you will have to do is open your footer.php. Find the div name the links are contained in. Go to the styles.css file and hide those divs. Do this by putting display: none; within that div in the styles.css.

    Thanks Justin that did work..

    - Located the div id "info" in my case
    -Went to style.css
-put " display: none; " no quotes at the bottom of it

    Footer was gone.. Thats great.

Problem I see is that it remains in the source code, and
crawl-able by search engines, and this could be identified as
hiding links, black hat stuff and might be worse than having
    them visible.

Anyway I'll keep looking for another solution. There probably isn't 1 that will always work because I have seen at least 3 or 4 tricks used to stop theme users from removing them.

    Thanks Justin,
I known this CSS method but Google find my free template footer link after hiding by CSS the display and its not good for a site. So I need to delete the template footer not just hide. Please help Everyone.

As the theme is not from the repository we are unable to offer support for it.

Also note that the provider specifically stated that the links in question are encrypted which is never a good thing. This is why we always encourage end users to use themes from the repository or trusted developers who do not encrypt their files and operate in accordance within the GPL guidelines.

@AbirWD - as noted by Zulfikar Nore - we don't support any themes like that. I'd strongly suggest you get rid of that theme asap - this may be enlightening -
