Removing Content/video (9 posts)

I just got an email from godaddy saying my wordpress was violating some of the terms of their hosting.

It said that I was using the wordpress as a file repository, violating their storage and security section of Go Daddy.

Specifically, the following currently appear to be in violation:

    21G /wp-content/backup
    38G /wp-content/backups
    29G /wp-content/videos

I found backups on my left hand menu, but backup and videos? What does that even mean? How can I fix a problem if I don't know how to even access the files that seem to be in question?

You need to discuss this with GoDaddy. We cant really help here.

Are you using a plugin to store backups of your site in wp-content/backup(s)?

Are you using a plugin to host videos on your site in wp-content/videos?

Neither of those are standard WP folders.

Go Daddy says this problem is through wordpress. I will check for plug ins that may have to do with hosting video, but I don't think that should be the case...

GoDaddy believes the problem is WP because you're in the wp-content folder.

    That's a pretty reasonable assumption.

If you've got videos uploaded in there, but you're not using them on your site, then yes, you're using WP as a file repository instead of a blog.

How can I delete videos and content in there? And if I am using them on my website, what can I do? I can't even find the folder wp/content/backups to wipe out or see if I am using them... I took out a plug in that was saving backups, but they said that didn't do anything.

    I can't even find the folder wp/content/backups

    Can you find WP-CONTENT?

I can't either... It's really been picking my brain for a while. What I am thinking now is changing hosts away from Go-Daddy to hostgator or something less picky about the content on the site.

If you can't find your wp-content FOLDER, you have bigger issues and moving hosts won't help.

You need to understand what it is you're doing on your site, what you're uploading and where, because you are in charge of your site. This is all your responsibility, and if you don't know what you're putting on your server, how can you make a backup?

Go find your wp-content folder via FTP. Look in it.

    DELETE the backups folder.

If you can't find it, tell your host you need help finding it.
