Support » Fixing WordPress » Removing a widget from the sidebar

  • On first installation of WordPress theres always a few widgets in the sidebar. Is it possible to remove certain ones, for example the search so that its not there after installing?

I still want the widget to be available, i.e I don’t want to permanently remove it. I just don’t want it automatically placed in the sidebar for a new install.

    Appreciate any help, thanks.

  • You will find the widgets are loaded by code in the sidebar.php file, so you can remove or add a new default widget in the file.

You should create a child theme add the sidebar file and edit the code.
