   I don't want the upgrade alert bar to come up everytime a new upgrade is available. It says 'WordPress 2.8.2 is available! Please update now.'

   could you please tell me how to remove it. Thanks a ton.

   That's an upgrade that you should install: it's security related. That's why that nag bar was put there.

   However if you want to turn off that notification try the Disable WordPress Core Update plugin.
