I can’t find any information on how to remove the tab above the banner on the right that says “sample page.” I’d like to either remove it or change the name. But I can’t find how to do that anywhere

Looks like that’s where the menu goes – and that’s a sample page that came with the theme?

Look under pages – delete it if it’s there.

And if you want a menu, you can create one under Appearance > Menu – see: http://codex.wordpress.org/Appearance_Menus_Screen
