  • i know wordpress has a problem when you write a post in microsoft word and then copy/paste it to wordpress. characters like apostrophes get converted to some type of illegal character (looks like a square?) and show up as a question mark in the blog. my problem is i have several posts with this problem. any idea how to remedy?

    example: “Mothers day”

  • Without seeing an actual post on your blog, I can’t tell whether the encoding has been preserved or garbled, so you may well be stuck with hand-editing the already existing posts. However, for future reference, take posts created in Word and copy them to a basic text editor (like Notepad) first. (This strips Word encoding and generally goes to basic UTF-8 unless you specify otherwise.) Then select and recopy that same text from Notepad to place in your post editor for publication.

Save your Word texts as simple .txt files in Word. This strips all Word formatting.

Another thing you could try is not using the visual rich editor. The visual rich editor preserves the formating of text from where you are creating it. If you create your post in Notepad, it will be uneffected. If you copy, say a table from a webpage (not the code mind you, but from the graphical side of it) it will input the table as seen on the page. The same goes when copying text from Word.
