I'm working on a project using magazine basic. I'm trying to disable comments but I don't know how to do it. I checked everywhere, page.php, index.php, comments.php and functions.php. any help will be appreciated. thanks.

If you log into the backend of the site, then go to view all pages. You should be able to do a "quick edit" on the individual pages and disable comments one page at a time. Or, if you want to disable comments on all of the pages try going into "screen options" and uncheck the comments box. Hope this helps!
