registration password email not working (5 posts)

I'm using the latest version of WP. I've been trying out various ways of protecting my weblog from comment spam, and decided to test the "must register before being able to comment" function. I filled out the registration form that appeared when I tried to comment with a blurb for a name and a real email address, and registered. The form reported that an email had been sent. No email arrived.

I don't think the email has been filtered out as spam.

I checked and my test person was in fact registered on my Dashboard.

Is there another way I can test this thing? Is there a likely reason it isn't working?

    Thanks.

if you're running your own server, check the php.ini file and make sure the SMTP settings are valid. on Windows, if the SMTP server is on the same maching as the web server, the SMTP address has to be localhost or it won't work (found this out the hard way).

If the only reason you need that is to battle comment spam, I recommend Dr. Dave's Spam Karma 2. It's never let a single piece of spam through on my blog, and it's highly configurable to atuo-allow whatever you want, and auto-disallow what's clearly spam. If it's in the grey area, it will give you moderation.

Thanks to both of you. RustIndy, I'm not running my own server, but I've sent your email to my host service for their thoughts. And mattfast1 I think I will try out Dr. Dave's SK2. I've heard / read that it conflicts with something currently -- another plugin? -- some part of the current WP program?

Don't get me started on Spam Karma please. It is known to prevent many legitimate commenters. It also provides rather offending messages to users, much toned down from SK 1, but still offending at times. Also several users faced configuration issues with Spam & referrer karma plugins.

Why am I saying all this? Been on the wrong end of the stick once too many.
