• `We are using wordpress to manage a business web site, and it’s been fine, but it could use a re-design. I got a copy of “WordPress for Dummies” and discovered that I could set up multiple blogs with one installation of wordpress. I thought I would be smart and set up a second site that I could use to re-design our site, that I would import our content into once it looked the way I wanted. I followed the instructions in the book to the letter. In the end, I did not succeed setting up the test site. But I did manage to create a problem: when people type in ourdomainname.com they get the error message: “Registration has been disabled”. If they type in www .ourdomainname.com, there is no problem. I’ve been searching and searching for a solution, and I can’t find a fix that works for my site. I’m desperate, please help.

You should follow these directions: http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network

BEFORE you turn on MultiSite, change your domain to yourdomain.com (without the www)

On the Settings->General screen in a single site installation of WordPress, there are two fields named “WordPress address (URL)” and “Site address (URL)”. These are also known as the “Home” and “Site URL” settings. That’s where you change it.

That’ll fix that one. You dont have MultiSite Working, so it’s okay to turn it off right now and make that change.

    Ugh, thank you.

Well, I just went to wp-config and turned off multisite. I went back to my dashboard and didn’t see the fields you were talking about under Settings->General. But turning off multisite did the trick and the url now works with or without the www, which is all I really wanted.

I’ll leave the site re-design for another time, or better yet, to a more qualified designer.

    Thank you.
