[resolved] register_http_request_failed: SSL connection timeout (27 posts)

I don't know when this started happening, but I can no longer activate Jetpack. When I do this is the error I get:

Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host. SSL connection timeout

Please tell me what I should do to resolve this.

    Thanks.

I'm working with out engineering guys on this one too, and keeping them appraised of everything that's going on. We found out late on Friday, before a three day weekend (OF COURSE) so catching all the right people has been fun!

Having some issues as well, as I have not been able to use Jetpack for a few days now. I tried to uninstall and reinstall and I got the following error message:
"Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host."
I hope the issue gets solved because I loved using Jetpack.

    Thanks!

I was able to get Jetpack to connect earlier today, but it's going quite slowly. I guess it's better than nothing.

    azn137, can you test again?

I ran a (very basic) connectivity test by running this via command line: lynx https://jetpack.wordpress.com/jetpack and it worked!

Patrizia1441, what';s your domain? I can add it to our engineers list.

Just as an FYI (because I dont know if it matters) I have disactivated and deleted Jetback. Let me know when I should re-install it.

    Thanks for the help!

I'm having the same issue too! I keep getting the same error message. It worked fine before but I had to deactivate it. Now when I try to reactivate it I get this error message.

We have now fixed the issue, and all Jetpack features should work on your site.

Don't hesitate to post here or open a new thread if you still experience issues.

@emanuelbrito If your problem is similar to the one described by the OP, could you send us the results of the compatibility test, as the others did?

    Thank you.

@Jeremy I have a WP website using Crazy Domains hosting and jetpack works fine. I have 3 Windows Azure websites and they all fail to connect to WP with the same SSL error.

the site with the issue is http://ladiestrekkingkokoda.azurewebsites.net/

is windows azure hosting the problem?

    Thanks

Hi, I have a WP site hosted with Windows Azure in Reserved Mode with the domain http://www.eduardopalacios.ec and I got the same problem.

    These instructions worked for me:

    1. Install and activate the Core Control plugin

    2. Now under Tools click Core Control

    3. Tick ‘HTTP Access Module 1.0′ and click ‘Save Model Choices’

    4. At the top of the page under the Core Control title click on ‘External HTTP Access’

    5. Under ‘Manage Transports’ find ‘cURL’ and click ‘Disable Transport’

    6. Now activate the Jetpack plugin with your WordPress.com account as well as associating / activating your Google Analytics plugin with your Google account if required

    7. Once verified that the Jetpack plugin has activated successfully you can go back in Core Control and activate the cURL transport, the same way as you deactivated it. The Jetpack and Google Analytics will continue to work once cURL is activated again, it’s just an issue during activation.

    I found it in http://www.tpateman.co.uk/reboot/error-activating-jetpack-plugin/

@epalaciosj thank you very much, your solution worked very easily. Jeremy did email me a solution but I hadn't got around to trying it. Yours seemed very straight forward and took <1min.

Thanks again for both of your help.
