• Hi,

I’m wondering what you guys think about the pros and cons of making users register before they can comment.

I’m considering allowing anyone to comment as long as they enter a name and e-mail address. I think it might be a pain in the butt for some people to register and that it might turn them off.

But, am I missing something? What do you think?

  • I’d agree, many commentors will not like having to register–some will refuse to comment just because they are required to register.

Notice also, many popular blogs don’t require registration.

Well, I rarely comment on blogs that require registration. Unless you have a lot of pre-existing users or some pressing need to have users register, it’s likely not worth requiring registration.

Use anti-spam plugins like Bad Behavior and Akismet, if that is what is bothering you.

I don’t even allow user registration on my own blogs, as a rule.

Well, I’m much like you…I really don’t like to register either and usually just end up not commenting.
I think you’re right, as long as they enter an e-mail and name and I use bad behavior etal. I think I’ll be better off.
    Thanks for your input.
