[resolved] Refresh for sidebar change? (10 posts)

    Here's my issue: If I add a page to the sidebar or make a change in the header, I have to go into each page and post and hit save in order for the sidebar to update on each page. Is this normal or is there a way to make it update on it's own? (I hope this makes sense to someone)

    To be honest it doesn't really make sense... But before we can look at your code you should address these validation issues: http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fblog.shippersx.com%2F

    If I add a page to my blog, the sidebar isn't updated on the other pages with the new page. Is this normal?

    I know there are some errors, but I don't know how to fix some of them. I've actually fixed about 40 errors already, haven't had time to work on the others. I'm not sure what to do to this error: "end tag for "font" omitted, but OMITTAG NO was specified ."

    Apparently you are using the crazy wysiwyg editor that adds zillions of bad code.
    On the validation page check the Show Source box and Revalidate. Every error line # will become a link and take you to the location of the error in your source code.
    You'll see endless lines like <font size="2">INGREDIENTS</font><font size="2"><font size="2"><font size="2"><font size="2">... Are you copyng text into the wysiwyg? That's the definite killer for a blog...

    RE refreshing. Maybe you are seeing a cached verision? Try to clear your browser's cache before seeing the updated site.

    I am using wysiwyg, it can be convenient at times, but these crazy codes are annoying. What do you suggest I do? I'm very limited in knowledge on html (even though my whole main website was done that way). I used to know a lot, but I have forgotten it over the years.

    I took out all of those font size codes that keep duplicating themselves. I got a lot of errors fixed, I'm still just trying to understand the "end tag for "font" omitted" one. I'm going to try to figure it out now.

    No, that didn't work either. Will you please tell me if you see a "Contact Me" link in the header next to Recipe Images on this page: http://shippersx.com/blog/about/
    It shows up only on the pages I've edited since adding it (like Home)

    Yes, I do see the Contact me (on every page/post) - my browser is set to always show fresh, never from cache.
    So that one is solved :) There must be something wrong with your browser's settings.

    As for the wysiwyg... If you ask me, it should be banned (considering the traffic it causes here in the forum, and making people's life miserable).
    Except of rare cases I don't see any need to use any kind of HTML in the posts! Why would you? Just write and publish. Leave the formatting for the stylesheet.
    It is simple:
    1xEnter = line break
    2xEnter = new paragraph.
    And you still have the handy Quicktags to insert a link or make a text bold etc. without getting all the mess the wysiwyg is causing.

    Just try to diable it and your life will be less stressful :)

    Yeah, it was my computer. How weird.

    When you say "Just write and publish," where would I do this? I use the wysiwyg from geocities and that's the only thing I know how to do.

    Thank you for your help!

    I have no idea what wysiwyg from geocities is... is it another monster besides what comes with WP?

    How do you write your posts? What I do: login to your blog's admin > Write > Write Post.
    And for disabling the monster:
    1. admin > Options > Writing: uncheck the visual editor whatever box
    2. admin > Users > Your profile: left bottom corner - uncheck

    Yeah, it is the one that comes with WP, it's what I was linked to on geocities.

    Okay, I did what you told me to do... we'll see how that goes when I have a new post to make :) Thank you again!

    I'm still getting used to it, but I like the new way of writing posts better :) Plus, I figured out why the sidebar wasn't updating. It was actually because of WordPress Cache, not my computer cache. I've learned so much about WordPress over the last month, it's amazing. Thanks to the help of everyone here!
