mobyfilesI run several WordPress blogs - one of them, I've got a big problem with referrer spamming on them. Curiously, this doesn't affect any of my other blogs, and the referrers list is as clean as a whistle.
The referrer spam is literally garbage links which don't have any kind of link back to my website at all. I've read ways of getting rid of them, but they don't seem to shift. Anything manual seems a lot of work - there are hundreds of them per day.
At first I wasn't bothered, but somewhere I read that you can get a search engine penalty if these spam sites are detected on your site, almost by way of association.
I've had a look at my logs in wp-content but there is only something called 'Apache Logs'. Can't find anything in there though. Someone did mention writing something into .htaccess to block any site where the referrer does not equal the URL but I don't know how to do it.
Does anyone else have this problem and how do you get rid of it?
