[resolved] Referrals from WP dashboard - what does this mean? (7 posts)

Have searched the forums, the blog and codex. I know I've missed it but still need an answer,puh-leasss. Where do those referrals from 'WP Dashboard ' come from? What dashboard is doing the referring? Does this have anything to do with the fact that my blog gets hits if I schedule it for later publication when I'm still writing? Those hits occur from somewhere in cyberspace because neither my RSS feed nor my blog list those articles as published when the hits begin.

Hope you can help. This is driving me nuts.

    Thanks.

Thanks for your response but sorry to say I'm still clueless. Where is the 'configure' you refer to? Will that URL answer my question?

    Many thanks, again.

What I mean is if, on your dashboard, where you see 'incoming links' you hover over the widget menu header, you will see a link called 'configure'. If you click that link, you will see the URL I mentioned.

THAT URL is how WP pulls in everything that links to your site.

So the answer to "Where do those referrals from 'WP Dashboard ' come from? " is: Google

Those hits occur from somewhere in cyberspace because neither my RSS feed nor my blog list those articles as published when the hits begin.

That's unlikely. Google can't find something that doesn't exist, and if it's found it, then you must have published it.

It is happening again right now with an article that I left as a draft and scheduled to print in a week. I didn't even hit the schedule key - just used the pub date to delay publication.

I've had several hits on it already, even though it has not been published, does not appear on my blog or in my RSS. I think WP has a glitch somewhere. Scheduling for a future date is a problem.

The links are because Google finds OTHER sites linking to YOUR site. Just keep that in mind.

It's highly unlikely WP is accidentally publishing (the post trigger is via cron and called when someone visits your page), and more likely other people are linking to the posts.

Are you getting pings to those posts?

WHO is linking to the posts? You can look at the URL I gave you, change DOMAIN.COM to your site, and look for <dc:publisher>THEIR SITENAME</dc:publisher> to see who these people are.
