    By creating two identical footnotes in the source. This feature is not currently functional, but this is a known bug. A fix should come shortly.

    My apologies for the delay in getting to this.

    Civil Footnotes has just been updated to 1.3 and includes a fix for the bug you’ve encountered. Unfortunately for your use case, I opted for a different solution than what was originally intended for the plugin.

    Now, when you create separate but identical footnotes, they appear separately in the body and in the footnote display. This solution was chosen because the backlink can only link back to one reference in the text, so some users will click a footnote and then be sent back to a place they weren’t reading from.

    If you’re set on finding a plugin that’ll work like this, I suggest looking into WP-Footnotes, which claims to have this working.
