    Hello-

I have been working with a theme that I’m trying to customize by removing the amount of white space that appears on the page. The number one complaint I have from site visitors is that they need to scroll down to view the content on my screen because of a very large header. The home page at least has a slider that reduces some of the white space (http://www.mickeymilespodcast.com) but when you navigate to another page, the problem gets worse. (http://www.mickeymilespodcast.com/marathon-weekend/) Is there anything I can do to reduce the header size? Thanks for reading!

  • That’s the design decision.

Front page apart ( cause it has the slider thing goin on ), the height of top logo with navigation, and then the block of site name with site description, and then the breadcrumb, all of that intentionally eat up lot of vertical space.

Thank you I much for your reply. I realize that the header size is the result of a design decision and I’m looking to find out where that attribute defined? I’ve searched style.css and header.php and I can’t seem to find it. Thanks for reading!

Design decision means the designer has a good reason for it to be that way. Most of the time when people adjust things aiming at making an improvement, they often end up ruin it because the lack of understanding on design principle.

I’m not saying that this theme has good design that no one should ever make changes to it, but I think this theme is for showcasing, so it doesn’t care if users read the content, it is for browsing and showcasing the brand.

The white space around site title is there to give power to the title and description, making sure it’s memorable, that’s the point of white space.

Even though your request is fixable by some CSS works and/or with some adjustments of generated markup, it requires background knowledge of HTML, CSS and WP in general.

The company that you bought this theme from has an exclusive member area for tech support and also it offer “100% Satisfaction Guaranteed Or Your Money Back!”.

So you should go over there, login and ask your question, they will do their best to provide solution you need.
