   I've finally figured out a problem I've been having. Please read my entire post. :)

   The Redirection plugin conflicts with the W3 Total Cache plugin, creating a problem with url rewriting.

   My site is configured to use http://www.kevinkimes.com, rather than just kevinkimes.com. This is set in the WordPress General Settings page.

   With W3TC and Redirection plugins enabled, if I type "kevinkimes.com" (with or without trailing slash) in my browser, it will not redirect to http://www.kevinkimes.com.

   With W3TC or Redirection plugins disabled, if I type "kevinkimes.com" in my browser, it will correctly redirect to http://www.kevinkimes.com

   Typing in kevinkimes.com/2011/06/google-panda-2-2-update-is-a-good-thing/ (or any valid url on the site with more than just the domain name), with trailing slash, It will not properly redirect to the www. URL. Again, disabling W3TC or Redirection will fix this.

   Removing the trailing slash in the above case (URL with post name) will result in a proper redirect with "www." and add the trailing slash in the process.

   I've also tested this on a subdomain, where wordpress was configured to display at http://www.subdomain.kevinkimes.com, with all plugins disabled except W3TC and Redirection.

   If I add redirection code to the top of .htaccess, the redirection takes several seconds, which is unacceptably slow.

   If I need to stop using Redirection, I'd need an alternative to handle all my outbound links without changing the links from http://www.kevinkimes.com/linkname

   If it's a bug in one of the plugins, I hope it can be resolved very quickly.

   I've attempted to notify the authors of both plugins, hopefully one of them will look at this.

   I've figured out a solution, I think.

   In the Modules section of Redirection's settings, under Apache:
   Click the Edit link on the right side.
   Add the correct path to the .htaccess file.
   Select the option for "Force WWW" under Canonical

   This adds another bit of mod_rewrite code to the top section of the .htaccess file, but unlike my other manually-entered experiments, it does not seem to be causing any slowdown.
