recurring events url behaviour (5 posts)

    Hi,

It would be useful if I could change the default behaviour for the urls of recurring events.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I can't see a setting. Perhaps it just needs a a line of modified code???

Currently, if you click on the 'base' url for a recurring event, you get presented with the first recurring ever event in that series. (The date of the first event is added to the end of the url.)

    e.g. http://retrotorque.com/social-network/classic-car-events/necpwa-york-monthly-club-meet/

    automatically changes to:

    http://retrotorque.com/social-network/classic-car-events/necpwa-york-monthly-club-meet-2013-01-03/

I'd like it so that (instead of the first ever event) the date of the next event (if there is one) in that series is added to the url.

The reason I'd find this so useful is that I've added a slider for featured events. Rather than adding the events to the slider individually, it's much easier to add them as recurring events - as it's a one-time job. The only problem is that I need the slides to point to the next recurring event in each series (easy if the urls had this modified behaviour).

    Hope you can help,

    Mathew Taylor

    Hiya,

The recurring event itself is never exposed to viewing as it's
purely for admin purposes to create the individual events.

If you're trying to build a slide of recurring events I'd suggest using EM_Event::get() to pull out the events in code to re-produce as per your requirements.

    Cheers,
    Phil

    Hi,

"The recurring event itself is never exposed to viewing as it's

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I agree. It's just that it would be handy if the url changed to the next upcoming event (by date) in that series, rather than defaulting to the first ever event.

Unfortunately, I can't do advanced coding, so I'd find it difficult to build a slider from scratch. That's why I was wondering if my suggestion would be easy to achieve instead.

My slider works perfectly and is easy to configure - apart from this default behaviour for the recurring event urls.

if you add cpt 'event-recurring' in your slider settings this should give you the list of the recurring events.

    Thanks Angelo,

But I can't see that setting. I'm using Indexo Slider by Slidervilla. I've chosen it carefully, after trying out serveral others. So I'd rather not change it.

It's at the top of my page:
