Recent post Plugin With Thumbnails??

I use the recent posts plugin from http://mtdewvirus.com/code/wordpress-plugins/ and was wondering if there’s a way to modify it so it displays a thumbnail of the photo used in a post, next to the post title in the recent posts list.

I guess it could be done by adding a custom field to each post that associates a thumbnail to that post, then calling it within the plugin, but I have very limited knowledge of PHP and coding plugins.

Does something like this already exist? If not, is there someone here who could lend a hand?

BTW: I already contacted the plugin author and he pointed me here.
