I had been using the Now Reading Plug-in for a year when I realized that all I wanted was a list that changed frequently. I didn't want to take the time to write reviews--just a list with author and link. I use Yahoo Pipes to grab XML from a Wish List with Amazon Web Services and the FeedList plug-in to display this RSS feed.
In order to add an item to the list, just add an item to your Amazon wish list.
There are several Now Reading/Listening/Watching plugins that do this. And others that can generate your Amazon Wish List as well.
I quite like Addictions to generate a Now Reading/Listening/Watching/Playing list where you can be as brief or descriptive as you want:

The feature of the RSS solution is portability. I have the feed going into my Facebook and other networks, too. I didn't see an RSS feature on that plug-in.
