hi!
I have 10 posts on the home page but when i use an excerpts plug in, the read more tag goes to a page that reads 'erros 404' and does not link to the post.
I have tried several plug ins but am unable to resolve the issue. How do i ensure that the more tag leads to the appropriate post?
Will updating to 2.9.2 help? Or Will it lead ot other problems?
Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

1st, why do you need a plugin to insert the "more" command? what are you trying to achieve?

I tried the more command and that led to the same problem. when i click on 'more' it leads me to a page that says 'error 404'. so i tried a few plugins to see if they could work. but all had the same result.
i am unable to figure out why i get an error page instead of 'more' leading to the appropriate post.
i had already read the reference material you have mentioned above. i'm not a techie so perhaps i may be missing something quite obvious and simple.
