• I am hand migrating an old MT blog into WP.
I have many photos that were included in posts in MT on the server.
    My question is :
Would it be better to re-upload these photos through WP when copying the old MT posts into WP ?
    Or
What’s the down side to just hard coding all the links to the photos already on the server?

    Also,
I want to use a few photos in my text widget on the sidebar. The only way I found to do that at present was to hard code to the current photos.
What path would I use to access a photo once it was uploaded through WP’s image upload browser, that was not connected to a post?

    Thanks

  • Your best bet is probably to reference the images that are already there. WP stores its uploads in the following format: http://yoursite.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/image.jpg, so it’d be better just to hard code them in.

Yea the way WP stores photos is sort of a drag.
That is one thing i really liked about MT, on the fly making the folder path to where the photo lives.

I did just upload 2 photos through the uploaded with out attaching to post.. so I found how to get that addy.
I did make a new folder ‘photos’ for the uploads, and turned off the year/month thing, but they still come through with that added to the url.

I think for all the photos in the ‘old’ blog i will just hard code to their present location on the server.

But for future photos on this blog, in posts and such, I am still not sure the best practice.

    thanks

Well, in the future, you could upload them through WP because that way you can just insert the gallery with your presets already applied after you upload pictures on the post/page.
