Re-order a combination of post types

How would one go about re-ordering a list consisting of a mix of different post types? It doesn’t seem like it’s possible with Post Types Order since the re-order mechanism is tied to each post type.

With the ever increasing usage of custom post types it seems like a pretty essential feature. For example if I want to set up a front page with a combination of custom post types (articles, images and events).
