Re-install wordpress (3 posts)

My site is currently a badly hacked version of word-press. Many pieces of code have been stripped from it in a non-coder attempt to customize the site. Things like comments, header title, etc, etc have been removed. I attempted to customize the site many years ago and now I think I have to re-install word-press in order to retain all of these functions and to be able to use an actual theme.

Can I re-install wordpress, install a new theme and still retrieve all the data from my database (ie all the posts created over the years)? I have never had comments on or users signed up, just made posts.

    thanks in advance

It depends on what version of WordPress you were using before, and which one you install now. If the database structure is the same, you shouldn't have any problems.

You might want to go ahead and create a new database for your new install. And then compare the tables which contain the posts content. If they are identical, you can just export those tables.

    Thanks Josh!

Come to think of it ... I only hacked up the index.php and the single.php. Could I just place those pages with the original ones and then install a theme?

I'm not sure what the original install version was. I've since updated to 3.2.1 which is being used now.

    thanks!
