• Hi guys, I could use some help. I’m a bit of a newbie so excuse me.

I recently decided to switch my portfolio site to wordpress, and have another blog hosted on the same ipage account. The blog works fine, but the portfolio site is giving me a lot of trouble. I went back and forth on a support ticket with ipage and they’re telling me it’s not a server issue because the site works fine for them.

After not being able to install WP through SimpleScripts, finally ipage was able to set one up for me but I kept getting Forbidden errors. I emptied my cache, cleared my cookies, used several computers and browsers and finally I was able to login through my /wp-admin. The problem is that I keep randomly getting Forbidden errors while working in WP. Sometime’s it’s only after a few clicks, working on some posts and then it stops working, other times I’ll be doing about an hour’s worth of work (including wp update, posting, and theme installs) and then the errors will occur. Then I get stuck in a Forbidden hole until I keep trying and eventually the errors go away, only to get back in the same situation again after a short time.

Sorry if this is a long explanation but here are a couple details that might be important:

My portfolio site was hosted on FatCow, until it expired. Around that time I bought the blog’s domain on iPage with hosting and hosted the portfolio and blog on iPage, keeping the portfolio domain at FatCow. This year (year 3 of portfolio, year 2 of blog) when it was expiring again, I worked with ipage tech support and they told me I needed to do a Domain Transfer to ipage so I decided to switch everything over to ipage and not deal with fatcow anymore. This is where the trouble started. I had errors trying to uninstall and install any wordpress to the portfolio site, and the blog remained unaffected. Tech support helped me with redirecting and fixing the simplescript install issues, and now that I’m installed I’m dealing with the 403s.

I don’t understand why it would be so finicky and why it would work and then stops working. Please help!

Also, I just tried installed WP on a new subdirectory /portfolio and am having the same 403 issue.
