Random Ads Appearing on My Web Site (14 posts)

My organization is paying for an ad-free site from Word Press. However lately, every time I create a new post on the site, it has been randomly turning certain words into links to ads. This is not acceptable at all, and makes our site look bad. It is of course especially frustrating since we're paying to have an ad-free site.

I really hope there is a way to fix this problem. If not, we will have to switch to stop using Word Press. Please let me know if there is a way to get rid of these random ads.

    What's your site URL?

Make sure you comb through your plugins to check if any of them might be causing the problem. Try deactivating and deleting (after backing up!) each one, one by one.

Can you link to a post where this is happening? I don't see any inline ads.

I don't see any links when I visit the page, though I am getting an error when I visit the site on IE. Who is your web hosting company? I would contact them to see if there was a security vulnerability.

WordPress.org does not take any money nor promises or provides 'ad-free sites'; WordPress.org simply is a free downloadable software base for building cms web sites.

(this might be a feature of WordPress.com - if so try to contact them directly http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ )

there have been cases of ads inserted by your browser - check if others using other browsers see the ads as well.

The only link I see on that post is to tar sands blockade, which I assume is intentional.

WordPress.org does not host sites. In fact, your site is hosted by Media Temple. Whoever you're paying for an ad free site, it isn't WordPress.

Not strictly correct. Your site appears to be self-hosted and has nothing directly to do with wordpress.com or wordpress.org apart from the fact that it is using the WordPress software.

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

I tried a different browser and the ads are still there. The words "Sandy" and "college" are the links

Not seeing anything in Firefox 16 either. This is sounding more & more like a browser/local machine issue. Try using another computer. Try disabling all browser add-ons & extensions.

Alright, I will try another computer and see if the problem is still there.
