    I just installed the free version on a Rackspace cloud sites account. Immediately after the S2Member install, the site went to the generic "Internal Server Error" message page.

    I wasn't able to find any errors in the logs, so talked to support. They helped me figure out that it was the .htaccess file. Apparently you have to update the RewriteBase to have a / after it, like so:

    RewriteBase /

    I'm not sure if other hosts have this scenario, too, but I wonder if there's a way to specify this in the plugin install process, so that you don't end up on a big ol' 500 page. Thoughts?

    -------------

    # BEGIN s2Member GZIP exclusions
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} (^|\?|&)s2member_file_download\=.+ [OR]
    RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} (^|\?|&)no-gzip\=1
    RewriteRule .* - [E=no-gzip:1]
    </IfModule>
    # END s2Member GZIP exclusions

    Thanks for the heads up on this thread. We've had s2Member updated to handle this scenario gracefully in a future release :-)
