New to this and I've only used wordpress.com before

I did a quick install with HostGator and received link saying install complete and link to my domain but this directs to the company who I purchased the domain via.

I understand I must need to change a settings for my domain but I don't know what setting or what to change it to. I've searched for information to assit to no avail.

    Help appreciated.

Did you change the name servers at registrar so that the domain name points to hostgator.

In you welcome email from hostgator has info for name servers

I think govpatel is right. Try change the nameservers

I am having a similar issue. I am new to webhosting (I have 3 wordpress.com sites however), and have gone through HostGator as well. I have tried both the quick install for wordpress and the Fantastico installer. Both will say that wordpress has successfully installed and gives me a link to my site, but when I click on the link, there is nothing there and google tells me that it doesn't exist.

I have read the above discussion relating to this; nameservers was mentioned as was making sure the domain name points to hostgator. I do not know where to go to change/fix this aspect. I do not know what I need to do to get my website to appear. I am very new to all of this, so any information would be helpful (the more explicit, the better)!

So interesting development: the site was there, but I couldn't access it through Google Chome for my MacBook Pro. I had to run Safari to find it then login to install/run wordpress. Is this common? I can access it just fine through Chrome now, but it seems really odd that it would't let me initially.

I use Chrome, almost exclusively and never had an issue with WordPress and Chrome.

    Hi kstark5,

You might want to start a new topic. I can tell you nameserver changes are made through the domain registrar and not through WordPress
