Hi. I'm running the last version of WordPress before the 3.0 update. I've created a website with mostly static pages and then a number of related articles that I would like people to be able to comment on. I set it up so that people registering would be "contributors." I hope that's correct if I want people to be able to write and edit their own posts.

When I tried creating a test account and logged in, however, I saw that I could edit other peoples' posts or delete them; which I wanted only myself as "admin" to be able to do. Any advice please?

You have them set up correctly.

You can edit other people's posts, because you're the webmaster.

To be sure, call one of your friends, then have them log on to your blog from their computer, and see if they can edit posts other than their own.

I logged in and set up a test account and could edit comments made by other people.

Also, after I'd changed it so people could post comments, the pages are still coming up as unable to post comments.

Is this because I used Artisteer to make the template/theme or because it's an older version of WP? Or did I do something wrong?

    The website URL is denvermediation.info

Did you call a friend and have them log onto your blog?

I went in and created a test person myself and could see that I could edit a post from someone other than myself as "tester."

    I registered and logged in.

However, I can't edit Your posts, although I can draft new posts, and submit them for review by an administrator. In order for them to actually be published, you would have to approve them.

If you don't want users to be able add/contribute new posts to your blog(with your approval), then go into "Settings/General" and set "New User Default Role" to "Subscriber". That way users can only comment on existing posts.

Thanks! That's what I wanted, anyway, for people to be able to comment on articles that have already been posted, to get their input on pre-existing articles.

I'll go back "under the hood" and try out what you suggest.
