I have had my website for a number of years and have been using wordpress. When i first started I had my permalink set to month and name. I see now there is an option to just have post name. Can i change this now? If so what happens to my incoming links? What about my internal links? Will they automatically go to the new addresses without the dates

You would be better not changing them at this point. All of your internal links will be broken and any incoming links will now get a 404 error.
Additionally if you have a lot of posts, using postnames is not a good idea as described in this article.
