Hi all, do you have WP hosted somewhere in Europe?

What do you see in google webmaster tools under Labs -> Site performance?

I run many WP in different server in different EU countries and I have been always having slow loading sites according to GWT. No matter what cache plugin I used.

This is what I see now:
On average, pages in your site take 19.6 seconds to load (updated on Jul 29, 2012). This is slower than 100% of sites

I have never seen my WP sites below the 96% :(
    ============================================
What do you guys see in your GWT? How many seconds to load your sites? And in what country are your servers?

    Thanks

  2. While I'm hosted all in the US, there is some generic advice for you.

First look into minimizing your CSS and HTML. There's also caching, which can help, but it depends on if the slowness is that your server is slow to process the page, or has a thin 'pipe' to the internet.

    What are your server specs?

I host with Amazon AWS in Ireland, and there is no significant difference in GWT between sites I host there and sites I host at any of Amazon's AWS Zones in North America.

Your EU host, or their uplink may have poor peering, or may simply be a poor host. Try some other hosts and see if it still and issue.

Most of the loads I see in GWT on my stuff hosted primarily in AWS is around 2.7 - 4 seconds. I do use all the methods suggested by Mika though

around 2.7 - 4 seconds? WOW!! I've never seen that also in my WP hosted in USA, which have almost no pictures and do have cache plugins.

I am using W3 Total Cache, however I can't use all its features because:

    Web Server: Lite Speed
    Opcode cache: Not installed
    Memcache extension: Not installed
Mime type detection: Not installed (required for CDN support)

Eh... I think I will pay some expert to optimize the site, but they all are extremely expensive :/

With that same caching plugin, my French-hosted site gets -

On average, pages in your site take 1.7 seconds to load.

I think this is more likely dependant on conditions, traffic, etc.. as the exact same site has seen 4 second times before now.

@utnalove: if you do not have an op-code cache installed, you are definitely not going to get the best performance out of the server, especially if you are on shared hosting, if not, contact your host and get at the very least the bits for the opcode cache installed.

The next release of the plugin will set no cookies by default. Currently the cookie is used for user agent group detection only.
