  • I hope I’m posting this in the correct forum. If not, I apologize.

Could someone explain to me what exactly happens when I mark comments as spam? I know, they get deleted, BUT, how is this action different from marking a comment for deletion? These are two separate options, “mark as spam” and “mark for deletion” and I’m a little confused.

Another, somewhat related question: does anybody know why most (well over 90%) of all spam comments I receive, are tied to only one of my posts?

    Thanks in advance,
    Przemek

  • 1. Before all: use some spam protection plugins, like
    Akismet
    BadBehavior
    SpamKarma2 (search)
    2. Actually those marked as “spam” don’t get deleted – but plugins like Akismet and maybe others, too, learn that they are spam and next time they will eliminate similar comments.
    3. I have no answer…

    >only one of my posts

repitition. consider this .. you drive to work everyday. you take the roads you know will get you there. spammers do the same thing — they find something that works, they come back.

(it’s the “path of least resistance” rule in action)

i’m convinced that spammers and the scripts they use check for apache error codes and the like. having had the opportunity to “watch” a script as it traversed hundreds of sites, it was clear that it was keeping track of what worked and what didnt >>>

ought to be a real eye opener for anyone.
