I would like to add an accesskey to the home link only in my menu but I don’t know how to do it or if it’s possible. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Not sure what “accesskey” is ? Can you show an example ? More details please ?

I strongly suggest that you not use the accesskey attribute; it can cause significant accessibility barriers on a web site for most users. As well-intentioned as the accesskey attribute was, in practical use users of screen readers are dependent on a large volume of quick key shortcuts, and using an accesskey will usually break one of those shortcuts.

I suggest you read this summary of the issues with accesskeys for accessibility.

Hello. Thanks for that. I am blind myself so my initial intention was to make it easier for users who use a screen reader to navigate my site. I’ve read the article and yes, they have a point. So I think I have to drop the idea about the accesskey for the home link.

Yes, accesskeys are a great idea in principle, but have a lot of problems when it comes to actually using them. Thanks for reading the article and reconsidering!
