Put blog posts on a separate page (20 posts)

    Hi all,

I've googled and had a look around on here but wanted to ask if the following is possible.

I've got my blog setup and wanted to know if it was possible to write blog posts and have them published on a different page. I've just created a new page and noticed that the layout appears to be like a single blog post and there doesn't appear to be any way to write/move posts on it.

Apologies if the above doesn't make much sense. If it doesn't I'll try and re-write it.

Actually, this is exactly the same thing I came here for today. I really would like to do posts to other pages as well instead of just having them just static.

Through much google'ing and fiddling around in the dashboard, I don't see a way to do this. Any one have ideas?

you just need to post to different categories, and use the category archive pages instead of creating your own pages.
see your category pages here http://www.justablogsite.com/?cat=3
    and here http://www.badasszebedee.com/blog/?cat=1

So for example I've created a GTA IV page and want all the posts to go on there. I just categorise them as that and make the link to that category?

you dont need to create a GTA IV page. just post them all in a GTA IV category, the page will be created for you. just like the ones i showed you above. you can then link to those category pages in whatever you use for a menu.

Right I see what you mean. So I can create the category and put all the posts in there, but how do I stop them appearing in the main blog page? I want them to be in their own separate section. To do this would I have to have 2 separate blogs?

Nope, just use a plugin or a custom Loop to exclude a category (or categories) from showing up on your main/home page.

So if I've created a page using the dashboard how do I change the link for it. I've tried looking through the db but can't seem to find the right field.

I'll search for plugins for excluding certain categories from the main page.

i have said over and over; you DO NOT need to create a new page in the dashboard. are you reading what we are telling you?

Yes I'm reading what you are telling me I don't have to create a new page but once I've created the posts HOW do I put them on their own page???

When I say create a page I mean have a link on the blog like the about page which only contains the GTA IV posts.

the way you link to them in your menu depends on what kind of menu you have. youll have to manually add them. i havent seen your site, so i dont know what kind of menu you are using.

I'm not really using any kinda of menu, only what came with WordPress. I'll have a poke around in the theme editor and add a link in the header.php to see how that goes.

You've linked to my site in a post above. It's badasszebedee.com/blog.

Thanks for your help and I apologise if I've been snappy or anything, just getting frustrated with this.

opps, sorry, wasnt sure if that was the site you were working on.
so, that nav must be in your header.php file, i would assume. youll have to add static links, like the 'home' link is static, whereas the about link is generated dynamically. dont use the theme editor in your admin. it has no 'undo' option. make a backup before you mess with it, so if i gets FUBAR you can always just replace it with the backup. then use your ftp program to download it, edit it in a text editor, then upload and see if it worked.

if you need more specific help, youll have to show us your header.php code. paste the contents of the file here http://wordpress.pastebin.ca/ and give us the link.

HOWEVER i did just find a plugin that might let you set it up in pages like you were initially trying to do

Cheers mate, i'll have a look at the plugin now and get that header posted tomorrow morning :)

Hmm just installed the plugin and I just get a blank screen. Checking the homepage for the plugin says it's compatible with wp up to 2.3 and I'm running 2.5. I'll have another play but will get that header file up for definite.

I've tried a variety of plugins and they all seem to do the same thing, display a blank page. The one I'm trying at the moment is Category Page

Since I wanted everyones posts to be available on individual "pages", I created categories for each author and simply have the category widget displayed in the sidebar. For our needs this solved the problem, but requires each post to be added to their category and I find that I have to go back and add it for them. Then again, I haven't spoken to them about it yet, which is my own fault. Anyways, It works nicely when you have few categories. Check it out here

You, probably, missed the possibility to display an author's posts on their own page:
    example.com/?author=X
    where X is the author's ID#.
