I am using the static front page and I have an area at the top of the page that is currently pulling in the latest post from a main category. I only want to show one post in this area, however rather than showing the latest post from one specific category id, I would like it to pull the latest post regardless of the category id. Is there any way to do that?

Should be able to take out the 'cat=' parameter if that is what you are using to restrict the category now.
