• Hi,

I have a website which I am using the Mobile Smart Plugin to identify if its a mobile device and to switch the theme when the user is using a mobile or desktop.

My problem is that for the desktop and mobile site I have a widget for the menu to be called. So I noticed that when the Desktop Theme is “Active” which is going to be the main theme, the side bar menu on the mobile theme on mobile devices does not appear but if I make the mobile theme the main theme it does appear on a mobile device. I understand why that is happening but I was wondering if its possible to call a widget from the main theme to the mobile theme on a mobile device…Does that make sense? The site is http://dev.ussailing.org

  • Hi ussailing,

Unfortunately, widgets are one of the hardest bits of theme switching, to which I don’t have a satisfactory solution yet.

The best bit of advice I can give is if you’re developing your mobile theme, you can name your sidebars the same as in the desktop theme, and then it should pick up the widgets in that sidebar in the mobile theme.

Let me know how you get on,

    Dan
