   I've been tasked with rewriting my employer's web site and was considering using WordPress as a CMS. As a rule, I don't like letting users hit the database and prefer to have content published to static files. Is this possible with WordPress without seriously hacking the original code?

   There is a plugin called Super Cache that will generate semi-static files, but WordPress itself will not work without a database.
